Important Budget Update - July 28, 2009

On July 28, we were notified that the Governor has ELIMINATED ALL FUNDING for all Alzheimer's Day Care Resource Center and Linkages programs - including ours. As mentioned in our July Newsletter, the Adult Day Health Care (ADHC) benefit remains cut to three days per week from five days. Our Multipurpose Senior Services Program is the only program left whole. Our program and administrative staff are working diligently to create a new program model to serve our most frail clients during this time of massive cuts to health and human service programs. Your donation can help us achieve this goal. Thank you for your continued support and interest in helping our clients maintain their independence and quality of life.

How can you help people maintain their independence? Join our new "Not My Grandma" Club: Sponsor a Participant

Participants do not attend our programs for five days a week because they are bored (although our programs definitely prevent that!), but because they require DAILY healthcare interventions and assistance with toileting, ambulating, eating, many routine daily activities, and supervision. Limiting their services to three days per week will certainly land many folks in institutions long before they or their families are ready. So here is our proposal: Let's just say, "Not my grandma!" We are creating a scholarship fund specifically to help our participants who are at greatest risk for nursing home placement. These are the poorest and frailest we serve, many with severe Alzheimer's disease, paralysis, Parkinson's disease and so on… They need your help. Sponsor a Participant will allow you to ensure these very real, very frail people continue coming to our program, living with their families, and maintaining their independence and dignity.

You can choose to Sponsor a Participant at whatever amount is comfortable for you. We can set up an automatic monthly contribution through your Visa, MasterCard, or bank-it's up to you. You can make a donation through PayPal or you can send a check. Better yet, come by to drop off your donation and meet some of the lovely people you will be helping. You will be their lifeline!

We are currently serving 108 participants and their families. Of those 108, 30 come five days per week and 12 come four days per week. This means we are looking to cover 72 days of attendance per week. With just 288 supporters covering one day each month, we can continue complete and uninterrupted services to our participants. Together we can do this!
